Most Successful
My most successful artwork that I've made this semester is my cobra bowl. I am really pleased with the way it turned out, I like that it can be useful and doesn't just have to be a decorative piece. I also like that I painted it gold because it makes it look a lot prettier. The gold makes it more tasteful because I wouldn't want to use a bowl glazed with an actual snake color. |
Most Obstacles
I was confronted with the most obstacles while working on, my carved tile. I rolled a square slab and drew a circular design on it. I planned to carve the circles at different heights to represent the theme of layers. Carving the shapes out was harder than I thought it would be. While I would carve a thin circle it would end up more angled than circular and I had a hard time making the layers even throughout the tile. Another obstacle I faced was the clay drying too fast. The clay began to get more and more difficult to carved as it dried out. |
Shows growth
The octopus and cobra that I made are the pieces that show the most growth. These show growth because I tried to make them as realistic as I could. For both of them I researched photos of the animals from all angles. For my octopus I looked at photos of different octopi to capture the movement of their tentacles to create the shape of my artwork. For the cobra, I tried to layer the coils uneven so it wouldn't look so uniform and it would look more like a real cobra coiled up. I also found close up images of the faces of cobras so I could create the shape of its head correctly. |
Self-Paced Class
I mostly like the self-directed class because once I finish a theme, I can move on to another one and don't have to wait for the whole class to finish. I like the freedom of picking from the provided themes because some themes take more time to think of a creative idea. The only negative to choosing my own theme is that I don't get to see how other people interpret the theme, because of this I spend a lot of time thinking of an idea.
