Artists Research
Before starting to make my swan I looked at many photos of swans, I looked for photos of swans in different angles so I could correctly mimic the shape of a real swan. The original shape of my swan looked more like a duck so I referred to my photos and realized that swans' necks are longer than ducks' so I make that correction. I could also see that the swan's head pointed down rather than looking forward. The photos are really helping me throughout the process of completing my work.
Artists Plan
When it came to the wings of the swan I didn't have an idea of which direction I wanted to go. The photos I was using were a mixture of swans with their wing up and down. I tried to think of how I would go about making the wings if they were up so I decided to make a couple of mock up wings. The first I added small pieces of clay to create the look of feathers. The second one, I used a knife to bring up small pieces of the side of the wing to give it texture. I finally decided that I didn't like the way the swan looked with its wings up. Although I didn't use either of the mock up ideas I did use the technique of the the first one to created the wing flat against the swan's body. |
